The NEET examination, a pivotal entry point for aspiring medical professionals into India’s esteemed medical colleges, is set to undergo significant changes in 2024, as dictated by the National Medical Commission (NMC). These modifications are poised to make the examination process more accessible and less burdensome for students globally, emphasizing the NMC’s commitment to evolving medical education standards and student needs.
Registration:
This time, a total of 23,81,833 students have enrolled for NEET UG 2024, with over 10 lakh being male, over 13 lakh being female, and 24 being classified as ‘third gender’. Out of the 23 lakh registered students, over 10 lakh are OBC NCL, 6 lakh are general students, 3.5 lakh are Scheduled Caste (SC) students, 1.8 lakh are Gen-EWS students, and 1.5 lakh are Scheduled Tribe (ST) students.

Syllabus Streamlining
A notable adjustment for NEET 2024 is the reduction of the syllabus. The NMC’s decision to decrease the total chapters from 97 to 79 marks a significant shift towards focusing on core knowledge areas essential for a medical career. The streamlined syllabus now comprises 28 chapters in Physics, 26 in Chemistry, and 25 in Biology. This reduction aims to alleviate the academic load on students, enabling a more focused study approach. By honing in on fundamental concepts, the NMC ensures that the syllabus remains rigorous yet manageable, fostering a deeper understanding and application of medical sciences.
Expansion of Global Test Centers
In parallel with syllabus modifications, NEET 2024 will also introduce new test centers abroad, enhancing the exam’s accessibility for international students and Indian students living overseas. With centers in key locations such as Kuwait, UAE, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Qatar, Nepal, Malaysia, Nigeria, Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and Singapore, NEET’s global reach is significantly broadened. This expansion not only facilitates logistical convenience for students outside India but also reflects India’s commitment to attracting a diverse pool of medical talent.
The NEET UG 2024 exam will include overseas exam centers in 14 cities across various countries. These international cities are:
– Kuwait City (Kuwait)
– Dubai (United Arab Emirates)
– Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates)
– Bangkok (Thailand)
– Colombo (Sri Lanka)
– Doha (Qatar)
– Kathmandu (Nepal)

This expansion to include 14 overseas exam centers allows candidates outside India to conveniently access NEET UG 2024 examination centers in their or nearby countries. It’s important for candidates who initially selected centers in India but wish to change to foreign cities to utilize the application form correction facility once it becomes available. Moreover, for new registrations from foreign countries, candidates can directly select their preferred country and city during the application process.
The NMC has also added a new section on ethics, integrity, and aptitude in medical practice to the NEET 2024 Exam. This component assesses candidates’ knowledge of medical ethics, communication skills, and professional conduct.
Important Information in Tie-Breaking:
In case of two or more candidates obtain equal marks/percentile scores in the NEET (UG)
– 2024, the inter-se-merit shall be determined as follows:
- Candidate obtaining higher marks/percentile score in Biology (Botany & Zoology) in
- the Test, followed by,
- Candidate obtaining higher marks/percentile score in Chemistry in the Test, followed by,
- Candidate obtaining higher marks/percentile score in Physics in the Test, followed by,
- Candidate with less proportion of the number of attempted incorrect answers and correct
- answers in all the subjects in the Test,
- Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct
- answers in Biology (Botany & Zoology) in the Test, followed by
- Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct
- answers in Chemistry in the Test, followed by
